Weight – It Can Make You Happy

I have always been very careful not to blindly accept the general beliefs of the mainstream current thought forms of my I have always been very careful not to blindly accept the general beliefs of the mainstream current thought forms of my culture. When I observe everyone doing something I am cautious about following in their footsteps. Actually, I am of the opinion that many concepts which we are encouraged to believe as absolute truth are, in reality, ideas that are not only false, but harmful to our well-being. One such area that has overwhelmingly consumed, no pun intended, the entire population is weight. The Weight Loss industry, in 2009, was a $350 billion plus industry. Now, let us stop and think about this. No one who is making money from weight loss products really wants you to lose weight or else how else will they keep making money. Diets do not work for most people, since after the desired weight is reached, the person usually returns to their former eating habits and, over time, the excess weight returns.

Let’s back up a little and define what exactly we mean by overweight. I have been contemplating the term for quite some time now and it seems to me that our culture has created an ideal, as do many other cultures, and that ideal has to do with body size. Now we all know that everyone is physically different, some tall, others short and the rest in between, but we are all being encouraged to weigh a certain amount based primarily on our height. Therefore, we can safely assume that expecting everyone to be the same size and weight is an unattainable goal and doesn’t even make sense. Don’t be duped about weight and the unwarranted negative self image associated with certain body types. Don’t fall for it. The more you focus on excess weight, the more it will stick around.

The first step in the process of creating an overweight customer base is to identify what will be considered perfect or ideal. This is simple since our society admires movie stars and models as the standard of beauty. Of course in other cultures the standard may be different; therefore it is not absolutely true that our standard of beauty is anything more than the current cultural preference. There’s the old joke about a woman who was considered plump in America and went to Mexico on vacation with a friend of hers that was a model. She noticed that the men mostly looked at her and not her slim friend. One day the model was taking a nap and the woman asked one of the local men who spoke English, you know in my country the men all look at my friend, but things seem different here. The man replied, sí senorita, the bone is for the dog, the meat is for the man.

When I lived in Belize, I noticed that there were very few women who were thin by American standards and if they did get too thin, they were considered unhealthy. There might be some value to this way of thinking. For those who are thin by nature, this is a healthy physical state, but for the rest, losing too much weight is usually not in their best physical interest. In order to reduce body mass to a size that is not compatible with the body structure, but is with a young woman on the cover of Cosmo, one must eat less food than their body requires. In addition, the type of food that has become associated with weight loss is very often laden with chemicals and has very little fat. The brain needs a certain amount of fat to function properly, so is the idea that thinner is better a subconscious cultural plot to keep women weak?

The word food is used very loosely nowadays. Chemicals are not food and foods that have been processed and have lost most of their nutritional value are of little benefit, if not harmful. Artificial sweeteners are not food and should not be used in or with food…EVER. They are chemicals that upset the alkaline/acid balance of the body and can cause serious health issues and even addiction. I was once told by a substance abuse counselor that I met on vacation that the most difficult a substance addition to treat was that of Diet Coke. The combination of the ingredients and carbonation is a toxic, refreshing beverage with absolutely no nutritional value. In addition, artificial sweeteners make you crave carbohydrates, so you end up eating more of what will make you gain weight.

The current methods of farming food, coupled with environmental pollution and soil depletion due to single crop farming, fertilization and the seeds being used have robbed our food supply of many nutrients. Because of this we are required to take nutritional supplements to make up for what is not in our diet and should be. For those not supplementing their diet, cravings occur when the body is not getting what it requires to be healthy. Our bodies know what they want, there is no tricking our cells, therefore, even after we have eaten a whole plate of lettuce with only vinegar, we are still hungry. Big surprise!

Our beliefs have been infringed upon and little by little until we are programmed to behave in such a way that will allow someone besides us to profit. What do women eat when they are out in a restaurant, you guessed it, salad. Why is that? Don’t get me wrong, I love salad, and I eat salad when I desire it, but I do not order or prepare it just because I think it looks good and people will think I am thinner because I eat salad all the time.

As a culture we are so focused on thinness that people are divided into two categories, those who are thin and those who are not. I realized this to be so one Sunday at the mall when I caught myself in the same trap. I was horrified that this was the mentality of my culture and even more that I had been participating in this belief. I was determined to begin to see others as perfectly where they are supposed to be, which is where they are. As I sat in front of the food court filled with throngs of people, consuming mostly junk food, I began to think about the situation at hand. For the most part it appeared that there were a number of things going on; first and foremost was that it was dinnertime and after a long afternoon of walking the mall and shopping many people had worked up an appetite or perhaps just felt like eating. I walked amongst the tables topped with burgers, pizza and French fries and noticed that there were excessive amounts of food in front of most people, even children. When I say excessive, I am basing it on how much food I personally care to consume at one sitting.

Most people in our culture eat more than they need, this is a fact. The amount of food we require will be communicated to us by our bodies. In other words, when our cells require nourishment, we get hungry. If we eat slowly, chewing and swallowing our food with care, we will know when we have had enough because we will not feel hungry anymore. The old adage of clean your plate is fine if there is not too much food on the plate to start with, but I have a sneaking suspicion that when that saying came into being, there was not the amount of food readily available as there is now. First of all, there was a time when food had to be prepared; people didn’t just reach into the refrigerator or freezer or go out to a restaurant each time they felt hungry.

As a culture we eat a lot of processed food. When I lived in Belize the local residents were proud that they ate only fresh food that was prepared daily. Most ingredients were local and had not lost as much of their nutrients over time as a result of being stored or transported. Many of us have busy lifestyles in the United States, leaving us little time to prepare meals each day from scratch, but there is Love in home cooked meals, an ingredient that you will not find in prepared or processed food. Life force energy gets transferred into the meal providing us with vitality that we will never get from a fast food restaurant or a frozen dinner. Over time our bodies and health will reflect what we have chosen to eat.

Okay, so we have determined that eating too much of the wrong food is enough to account for the inability to remain at an optimal body weight, but there is more. The social pressure to be thin and the implications of being overweight, a term applied to a measurement that exceeds a number arrived at by the medical community and/or the fashion industry, has the result of creating low self-esteem and even self-hatred. Beauty is big business and there is a disproportionate amount of focus place on whether or not a person is beautiful. In fact the person can be amongst the worst scoundrels ever to live and if he or she is beautiful, they hold our attention and maintain our admiration. Inner beauty is highly under-valued and outer beauty, even though it can be bought is the measure of a person.

Larger people are kept separate so that thinner ones do not have to shop with them as anyone who wears Plus Size clothing will tell you. The Plus size departments are hidden in basements and corners of areas where no one goes. The clothes are not stylish, for the most part, and sometimes they even cost more, as if an extra two inches of fabric between a size 16 and 1X is going to make a difference in the cost of creating the garment. Why can’t these garments be amongst the regular clothes? Are we to hide people away who are an inch larger that the privileged, acceptable thin ones?

If you do not like your body the way it is now, then you will never like it no matter what size you are. So in order to achieve your perfect body weight, the first thing you must do is start liking yourself right now, just the way you are. Begin to tell yourself that you Love yourself. Stand in front of the mirror and admire what you see and say the words out loud until you begin to feel the Love. Think of someone in your life that you love, whether it is a romantic love or love of a family member or friend and think of how you feel when you feel love for them. Then start feeling the same way when you look at yourself.

As you see your reflection, admiring and loving yourself, realize that there are two of you participating in this process; one is yourself, the you that is in your conscious life and the other one is the person that is talking to you or your higher or real self. The one that you refer to as “I”, when you say I love you to yourself is your higher self. It is that part of you that has always loved you, was born loving you and always will love you no matter what. That part of you doesn’t care how much you weight, the color of your hair or how many wrinkles you have, because that part of you is eternal and only exists in your body during this lifetime.

A young child that loves an adult does not judge the way that person looks, they just love them and in the same way, your higher self loves you unconditionally; so do not be afraid to tap into that feeling for yourself. Don’t let the standards that society has set for beauty, which are fleeting and change from time to time, keep you from loving yourself. Do not allow yourself to be convinced that you are not a beautiful creation of the Universe. When your mother and father first saw you, they could not imagine anyone more beautiful so believe that you are healthy and lovely and that is the reality you will create for yourself. Be the vibrant being that you were born to be.

Do Something Different

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. – Albert Einstein

If we desire different results, we must do something different. This implies that we are creating outcomes by what we do, and what we do is driven by what we think and believe. Assuming we do create our own reality, it follows that if we remain unchanged our reality will remain the same, but this is not the case. The world around us changes constantly, therefore if we continue to do the same thing over and over and think similar thoughts, never changing them, we are not really remaining the same, but rather we are refusing to accept change and by doing so are creating difficulty and resistance in our lives.

It is very modern and sounds extremely quantum to presume that we create our own reality, but how does it work that we impress our thoughts on the formless substance from which reality is created? The truth is that we are not creating anything, everything already exists. Energy brings forth vibration, the type of which depends on the frequency of the vibration. When we choose our thoughts and beliefs as the basis of our actions we are determining with which instance of vibration and energy we will resonate. There exists in the universe, infinite vibrations producing an unending amount of energy; therefore anything can happen and the possible combinations of thoughts, choices and actions of every living creature that has ever existed, or will exist, on every part of the planet, solar system, universe and all the dimensions outside of our own, make the number of realities that might exist beyond rational comprehension.

Yes, we are influenced by everything, even though we are not aware of every aspect of our multidimensional reality. We have no idea what our 7th dimensional self is doing at the moment or how our 5th dimensional self is feeling. We cannot see rays of energy passing though our environment and our bodies and we do not always know of other beings that are sending us love and light from other star systems. What we can do is increase our awareness about what we think, believe and do, thereby striving to raise the vibration of our own energy and existence here on earth and in the universe. Each one of our cells contains the blueprint of our being and they return to us what we give to them, since they are us. Our little cells live each day, as do we, and are influenced by us, just as we are by our environment so we must take care of the messages we send because what they create will come back to us. What you give is what you get, what goes around comes around; the love you take is equal to the love you make. It’s all up to you to determine the reality in which you live your life.

Do you believe:

  • You are healthy and vibrant.
  • Life is grand.
  • We are all connected.
  • Conscious human evolution is your highest priority.
  • You are perfect.
  • You are loved.
  • You are an essential part of a whole.
  • You live in an abundant universe.
  • You are beautiful.

Life is meant to be wonderfully fantastic beyond our wildest expectations, but we must do something different to achieve this happy state if we are to rise to a higher consciousness. Each of us is required to determine what changes are necessary in our unique, particular lives to bring us to heaven on earth. Start small, make tiny changes and begin to see the results, for many small changes add up to larger ones and new and exciting realities. Remember, you are safe and you are loved.

Self-Esteem – You Deserve It

Did you ever wonder why some people confidently achieve their goals with little effort, while others appear to struggle through life? To begin experiencing success you must feel successful and believe you deserve to be so. The level of self-esteem you have dictates what you allow into your life. Many years ago, a woman told me one day, you are only as successful and happy as you want to be. I was startled by the idea that I was actually in control of my life and all I had to do was to change my attitude and my beliefs. I began to practice thinking positive thoughts.

During my day I recited mantras such as:

  • I deserve all that I desire.
  • If someone else can do something, so can I.
  • I am perfectly where I should be every moment.
  • I am a divine creation.

Back then, each time I found myself thinking something negative or doubting myself I practiced my positive affirmations. After awhile I didn’t have to practice anymore, positive thinking became my reality. I began to see that things really do go well when you expect them to. When you believe, it’s always something, you are preparing yourself for expected setbacks and failures; inviting and accepting obstacles that will prevent you from achieving success. This allows you to blame life for your failures instead of taking responsibility for yourself.

On the other hand, when you believe that you will achieve your goals, seamlessly and effortlessly, then you begin to receive the guidance you need to do so and will know the steps to take in the process. Furthermore, you will be encouraged by the momentum you experience when things go well. As you see your efforts materialize into the results you desire, you will gain confidence in your ability to create successful outcomes. Through each step in this process you will become happier, which will support and increase you healthy self-esteem. We live in a universe of infinite possibilities; one of these being that we deserve to have what we truly desire; that is why we desire it, because we are supposed to have it.

Success means different things to each of us, but what it has in common for all is achieving our goals; but does this mean you are only successful if you achieve your final goal or is success an ongoing process of a series of moments occurring they way you would have them? When exactly do you become a success or is each small accomplishment a part of the success you achieve during your visit here on earth? I find that recognizing, showing gratitude for and celebrating the small successes in my life paves the way for more to come. Begin to allow yourself the joy of seeing yourself involved in successful action, remember, you deserve it.

Excerpt from my book, ‘Do You Want to Be Happy NOW?’

Why Worry?

Worrying is a complete waste of time. If you worry about something and it works out, you worried for nothing. If you worry about something and it doesn’t work out, you have only made the situation worse by worrying and placing your focus on a result you don’t want, thereby helping to create it. When you allow events to unfold, envisioning the best outcome, you are using your energy and thoughts to create the results you desire. Worrying wastes huge amounts of energy. When you are happy, you have faith that things will turn out well and that the universe will provide solutions. When things continually work out for the best, you will see the magic of life. You will become accustomed to allowing this to happen and you will be happy.

When I moved to New Jersey from Canada in 2000, it was very difficult to find an apartment, but I knew I would find a suitable place to rent. One day, a friend of mine, who did not share my faithful attitude, said to me, “You’re never going to find a place in your price range. It’s impossible.”

“Would you just try and be a little more positive?” was my reply.

The next day, out of frustration, I opened the phone book and looked up apartments in the yellow pages. I called the first management company in the list and asked if they had any vacancies. They told me they had a one bedroom unit that I could see any time. I drove there on my lunch hour to have a look and as I pulled up the shady, tree lined street where the garden apartment complex lay nestled, I knew this would be my new home. I was shown the apartment, which was freshly painted with immaculate wood floors and three windows in the living room overlooking a courtyard filled with trees. I loved it. It was perfect. I told the apartment manager I would take it, but he explained that another woman had just seen the place and she also wanted it. I asked him if I should fill out an application anyway, and he said yes.

I only had a glimmer of hope to get the apartment, but it seems that’s all that was required. At eleven o’clock the next morning I got a call from the management company stating that the other person hadn’t faxed her application and they were inquiring if I still wanted the apartment. I told them I did and that I would be there in an hour with the money. It was Friday and I had just deposited my paycheck, but I knew it wouldn’t clear until Monday. The management company assured me they wouldn’t deposit my rent check until Monday. I signed the rental agreement, got the key, went up to my new home, lay down on the bare floor and breathed a sigh of triumph. I was so elated I didn’t even care that I only had $20 left to my name and a temporary job. I knew it would all work out and you know what, it did.

How do you stop worrying? First you must have that intention and then realize you are in control of your thoughts. You don’t have to worry about anything. Worrying is a habit you learned. You didn’t worry as a child. Why should anything go wrong? Life is not supposed to be full of things going wrong. Almost every day I hear people say, “It’s always something!”

No it’s not! It’s not always something. Stop yourself from thinking that and saying that. If you believe it is always something, it will be. If you believe that things go smoothly, then they will. Consider nature, everything is perfect in the natural world and we are part of that world, so why should we experience mishap after mishap? When you say that it’s always something, you are not allowing yourself to believe that things can go well. You are in opposition to the natural flow of life. So go with the flow and watch life unfold perfectly, the way it’s meant to, and when you hear someone say, “It’s always something,” tell that person “No, it’s not.”

No Regrets

Regret is another waste of time and energy, just like worrying. You can’t change what happened or what you or someone else, did so why waste your time and energy regretting it? When you regret something, you are still putting your energy and thoughts into what you are regretting. Therefore, you are still participating in and sustaining events you wish had occurred differently or never happened. If you continue to regret, over time you will also end up regretting all the time you spent regretting. When you are happy, you will not regret anything because you know that everything that happened was necessary get you to your happy state.

Desire – What Do You Love

We are taught to not be ourselves from the time we are very young. What we must do when we become adults is say what we want. When you want to say no, then say it and when you want to say yes, say that as well. You have the right to say whatever you want. Of course, there are different ways to say the same thing, but the important point is to be honest with yourself about what you truly desire. When you were a young child, you said yes and no without hesitation. Saying yes didn’t cause you too much trouble, but as soon as you learned to say no, you ardently began to state your objections to all limitations that were being placed on you.

How wonderful you felt when you discovered you could say no. The world was yours. Everything was going to be your way, exactly how you wished. What could be better? All your little life people had been telling you no and now you had joined the no club. You could tell them no. However, your joy was short-lived. You listened to others when they said no, but the same result was not achieved when you said no back. In fact, quite the opposite happened. When you said no, your mother and father got angry. You might have tried a few more times to tell them no, but after awhile you stopped. That was when you became disconnected with your feelings; you couldn’t say no, so why bother? You began to do what others wanted you to do, not what you wanted. After a while you stopped even thinking about what you truly wanted, no less trying to achieve it.

Then came the teenage years, when your desires began to re-surface and the choice was before you to continue to do what your parents and the world expected of you, to follow your friends or to do what you wanted. Almost all of us go a little wild in our teenage years, the degree being determined by how repressed we have been and our individual personalities. It’s the time of our lives when we have the opportunity to become unique beings or to follow the crowd. Those of us who choose individuality will be loners and those who follow others will have the approval of their peers and perhaps their family. The rewards of approval are diminished, however, by the separation we have from ourselves when we turn ourselves over to the crowd. The loneliness of those who choose to go their own way is lessened by the feelings of fulfillment that being connected to one’s self affords.

It’s our responsibility as adults to create our own beliefs. We learn the ideas of our parents and teachers when we are children and when we approach adulthood we begin to create our own truth. The teenage years are the testing grounds and the years following are the proving grounds.

Get to the root of what you really want. Do what makes you happy. Why not? Now you might ask, “Suppose I don’t want to go to work? Should I quit my job and just take my happiness to the grocery store?” No, that is not what I’m suggesting. Do you like your paycheck and the living it provides you? I do. So why would you want to quit your job and have no money? Most people wouldn’t even know what to do if they left their job–even if they still had the money.

The point is to decide what it is that you really want. Is it that you don’t want to work or is it that you want to do something different? I was able to leave one job, and start a new career that allowed me to maintain my standard of living. My desire was to work at what I loved, not just to have money and not have to work. So get to the root of your desire. Ask for what you want. Who should you ask, you ask? Ask who you think you should ask. Ask life, or the universe or yourself, but ask. Angels are waiting all the time to help you; all you need to do is ask. If you never try, you will never know.

Enjoy the sunrise…

Living a Divine Life

We are here on earth to live a Divine Life.  Does it sound like a fairy tale? Perhaps it seems so far away that it will never be part of our reality in this day and age and instead must be classified as a state of mind only available to mystics and men sitting in caves in the Himalayas or on mountain tops in Peru.  However, a Divine Life is our legacy and the only thing that stands between living it and not, is our vibration.  No matter what kind of life you have had up until this moment, your Divine Life can start right now and you don’t even have to move to a cave; you can stay right where you are.  The first step is to believe that it is possible to live a Divine Life and then you must have the intention make it your own.  See that was easy, now wasn’t it?  You have already gotten over the biggest hurdle of all, changing what you belief.

Living a Divine Life begins with how you view and treat yourself.  Just the same way you receive oxygen on an airplane before helping someone else; you must love and honor yourself in all aspects of your life, not allowing even one moment or action to compromise the integrity of the standard of excellence you have established for your life.  Begin by showing gratitude for what you have, loving your life and those in it, loving your body and all the activities that fill your day.  When you do this, you are ensuring that your life will always be lifted to the quality that you desire.  Love your job, it provides you with the money that supports your lifestyle.  Love your friends; they are the mirrors in which you can see your character.  Love your enemies; they teach you lessons and allow you to remain steadfast in your values.  Love yourself for living a Divine Life.

To live a Divine Life one must embrace the concept of Divinity and the way that it manifests in everyday life.  First, understand that we are all connected or simply put; we are all in this together.  Each of us is just as important and essential to life as everyone else, so we must give each person the same Love and respect.  That is the essence of Divinity, to see that everything that exists is an expression and a reflection of the Divine.  Therefore to continue living a Divine Life, look upon everything with Love.  This means accepting others the way they are and allowing them to fulfill their life’s purpose, just as you do yours.  At times this can be extremely difficult especially when you have the desire to help someone because you have already learned what they have not, but do not attempt to impose your wisdom on others.  Instead, be an example.  Be a bringer of light and shine your light so that others will know that there is a light.  When this happens they will have the opportunity to look at those who shine, and learn that life is an occasion and we must rise to it.

Living a Divine Life means accepting everyone without judgment, criticism or ridicule.  That could have been you at another time on your journey.  Just because you have gone farther, doesn’t mean you are better or wiser, it is only an indication of the vibration of your being at the moment.  There are other moments when your vibration might have been much different and in other simultaneously existing dimensions, things might be even be much different.  When living a Divine life your thoughts towards others ought to remain positive, uplifting and impeccable, just the same as your words must.  Changing judgmental, assumptive thoughts, which result from living in a competitive society where everyone is expected to give up their identity and adopt the beliefs of the culture, can be difficult, but with practice you will find that doing so is refreshing and vitalizing

Perceiving others with Unconditional, Divine Love changes your world and attracts people who are on the same journey as yourself, some are farther along and others by your side, but it is all as it should be.  We live in a universe of infinite possibilities; when you step into a Divine Life, you are stepping out of the very existence you have been criticizing and into the place where life is good and all is well.  You do not see a world of global warming, earthquakes, terrorists and tsunamis, but rather a place of Conscious Human Evolution that sometimes includes events that are completely beyond our rational capability of understanding, but are necessary for the Shift that is occurring.  After all, we live in a Universe that functions perfectly on an infinitely grand scale, so we certainly cannot assume that the events that are occurring here on Earth, which we label catastrophic and life changing for many, will upset the impeccable workings of the Cosmos.  Life is a dance and we must learn to move to the rhythm.

Currently, our mission is to change our thoughts and beliefs to higher vibrating ones that will allow us to let go of the Third Dimensional reality that we have so long embraced and gracefully transition into the Fifth Dimensional aspect of ourselves, a transition that is inevitable, in process and must not be postponed for another day.  Begin to look at the world, not a place that is damaged and populated by ignorant people who should be criticized, but rather as a place of wonder and perfection filled with plants, animals, minerals and humans that are all on the same guided, evolutionary path right here on Mother Earth.  See the beauty in everyone.  Each person was once a little baby that was cooed and cuddled and that being is still inside that body with a perfect, loving spirit just like yours.

You may have heard the expression, from the bottom of my heart. There is wisdom in many old sayings and this one is no exception.  In a place near the bottom of your physical heart there is a chamber wherein resides the brain of your spiritual heart.  This brain is wise beyond comparison to the brain in your head, for it only knows truth.  Place your hand at the bottom of your heart and become acquainted with the most sacred spot of your being, the spot where your most profound and deepest emotions are felt, the resting place of your soul and the chamber of divinity within you.  Feel the Unconditional Love emanate from this place, forming a bubble that reaches into the multidimensional aspects of your being.  Whenever you wish, throughout your daily journey, recreate this bubble and make it your intention to be surrounded by the energy of Unconditional Love that you have just now created.  When you exist within the resonance of Unconditional Love, then you are living a Divine Life.
